We've been scheming up a new Toc de Castells, Edinburgh style! It's the usual Toc we all know and love, but now it has some Scottish rhythms, and a sneaky bit of a well-known pipe tune.
In particular we add some Scotch Snaps, which are common in Scottish pipe tunes and Strathspeys, as well as some swung quavers, which you might find in a hornpipe or reel. The middle part of the tune is a modified segment of "Atholl Highlanders" which you can often hear being played by the bagpipers on the Royal Mile in the center of Edinburgh!
We lovingly call our version "Toc dels Cardats", because "Cardats" in the nickname for the Colla Castellera d'Edinburgh. It's a fun pun involving the Catalan words for Thistle (national flower of Scotland) and a swear word meaning the equivalent of "screwed".
Here the full track with both voices and drum. Below that you can find links to versions that have one of the parts muted, so that you can fill in the missing part, or so you can hear the existing parts clearer.
